Predictions 2008

By John Murphy

The Economy.

The economy is contracting and there will be a recession. There are rhythms to everything and this is a natural rhythm.  The cause of this contraction is the sub-prime market which was an agreement between sides involved. By not recognizing their own self value, this problem was created to help them see where their true value lies. Although you may not be involved directly, our growth opportunity here is to practice being positive and seeing yourself as doing the opposite of all the recession talk.

How long

Housing - 2-3 years to recover. The Midwest will fair better.

Stock Market - will recover this year and post a gain, but not much.

Job Market - For you personally, the right job is there. You may have to work to find it.  Here is where you must practice being positive.

The US auto makers will stabilize and begin to improve. They are getting it           back together and their image will improve which will lead to better sales.

 The Presidential Race

Democrats
Obama inspires but Clinton will feel safer. The race is close and will be decided at the convention. Hillary will win  the nomination.

Republicans
Mitt Romney will get the nomination not because Republicans think he is so good and are excited about him, but because they think he has the better chance against the Democrats.

The Presidency - Mitt Romney.

Will there be a terrorist attack within the US?

Yes, it will be from within by US citizens.  Now this is not a big deal unless we let it.  There are "tragedies" occurring all the time. A bridge collapsed in Michigan and we were saddened and authorities looked at the cause and fixed bridges of that same design. When the "terror" attack occurs, homeland security will assess the weakness and make changes that will be better for all. If a "terror" attack is particularly disturbing to you, look inside for what it means to you personally. For me, it may symbolize a loss of control and I would need to address that on a personal level; anyone else should do the same.

Israel and the Palestinians.

There will be a peace treaty as President Bush predicted. Of course, it will not bring peace. The treaty symbolizes the desire and the hope to be able to work things out. They will make progress but it will appear as the "usual" for the rest of 2008.  The wall Israel built will stay up. In the future, it will be a vibrant economy that brings the wall down and ends hostilities.

The War in Iraq

It will not be over in 2008 and the troops will have to stay for about 3 more years.  Progress is being made toward an Iraq that can govern itself.  It will look like more of the same in 2008. Also the Republicans do not want to bring the troops home because the economy is bad and they are afraid it would cause the situation to get worse.

How many games will the Chiefs win in 2008 season?

The Chiefs will definitely win 4 games and will not win 7. Games 5 and 6 feel iffy, so they could go either way.

I do not consider what I do "predictions", per se; however. I am more of a prognosticator (one who predicts, using current signs as a guide). I did a brief meditation where I watched myself reading a newspaper with a January 2009 date on it. I was reading an article entitled 2008: YEAR IN REVIEW. What follows is what I read in the article. Please keep in mind the article was looking BACK at 2008.

Continued turmoil in the Middle East led to a steady rise in the cost of gasoline and home heating oil, making it especially difficult for residents in the Northeast to heat their homes this past winter (2008).  Money usually spent for Christmas went instead towards "necessities", leading to a blue Christmas for many of the major retailers who were hoping for better news than last season (2007).

The Dow Jones continued a slow but steady decline, tumbling from a high of around 12000 in January of 2008 to its current levels of under 10000. The market appears to be correcting itself to more accurately reflect real world conditions.

Republicans retained control of the White House.

Iraq continued to drain the overextended resources of our military, leading to the first whispers by certain Congressmen of the necessity to reinstate the draft as recruitment efforts have failed to produce the numbers needed to fulfill the various missions worldwide. Although there was a rise in recruitment late in 2008, most experts attribute that to the weakening job market and stumbling economy.

The rest of these prognostications came over the period of time from early December to mid-January:

All areas of our daily lives are in the process of resetting themselves to overall "average" levels that are a bit higher than they are currently. In some cases, these will be as much as 30%. On the coasts and in larger metropolitan areas, $4 per gallon gas will become more the norm.  Gasoline at $3.50 to $3.85 will be considered a "good deal". In the middle of the country, the rise will be closer to $3.50 as the norm and around $3.15 to $3.35 a gallon as a "good deal".

Food prices will take a bigger bite out of your budget in 2008.

FEMA will take at least one other big natural disaster hit in 2008, somewhere along the southern coastline. High winds/water/flooding type damage will be the extent.

California and a large portion of the West will continue to burn as drought conditions persist. Firestorms will continue to rage.

Pestilence (insect infestation) takes out a grain crop in the Midwest. It looks like a beetle of some sort.

The dollar weakens against the Yen and the Euro as China begins to dump dollars in favor of European currency. But don't give up on the dollar just yet because some global economic downturns will make the dollar a better bet again somewhere towards the third quarter of 2008.

Gold could reach $1200-an ounce this year.

If you are in the market to buy a home, a good time will be towards the third quarter, i.e., late summer, early fall of this year.

I would like to add a small footnote here.  Although much of what I was shown could be construed as being "negative", I am a firm believer in the premise that if you are forewarned, you can be better prepared. Rising costs of both food and fuel will require us to become more CONSCIOUS in our activities.  Consciousness is the Spiritual goal on the planet at this time, so these shifts make sense to me.

Gasoline costs will require us to be more mindful, to plan ahead a bit, and perhaps to even make some choices about where we go and how often. Higher food prices offer us the opportunity to eat cleaner food, healthier food, and less food. If we choose to prepare more of our meals at home rather than eating out or eating processed foods, we can actually save money which will serve us well. This savings could be set aside to help meet the rising costs of fuel.

All of this gives each of us the opportunity to go within and ask: What is the right action for me at this time? Each of us is an individual and each of us has the ability to discern for ourselves our proper path.

Thank you for allowing me to share this information with you.
